Awkward silences,
bitter like a bag of lemons
hang over you,
reminding you
that life could be different.
You find yourself
dry
in a pool of bath water,
because nothing
is ever as it seems.

Shadows and expectations are best friends then, aren’t they? Life would be blindingly bright, and flat all the time without them.
